The Forensic science division undertakes the examination of items of physical evidence associated with crime scenes, victims and suspects. Physical evidence may generally be defined as any material either in gross or trace quantities that can establish through scientific examinations and analysis that a crime has been committed. The scientific findings of the laboratory are then utilised by the Courts of Law for legal proceeding. The Forensic division is equipped and has expertise to perform various forensic examinations and analysis that are mainly requested by the Law Courts – besides the division also provide services to the Malta Police Force and the Customs Authorities.
